  Status Report: As of Monday morning, 25 March 2002, Juliett 484 left Halifax, Nova Scotia,
  and is presently in transit (final departure has been delayed until 10 AM on 26 March due to   weather). Final destination - Providence, Rhode Island.



Monday, March 25th, 2002

09:00
Made up tow bridle and did final systems check.

Disconnected shore power and phone line

Tug "Point Valiant" arrived and hooked on as the aft steering tug.

Received Customs clearance and immigration documents.

Everyone got off Juliett 484 but the crew, lines singled up.

Lines off. Juliett 484 pulled away from berth

J484 / Hemlock heading out of Halifax Harbor

Tug "Roseway" took WDCL barge and returned it to WDCL main berth.

Tug "Roseway" took Yokahama fender and brow and returned them to Lima berth at Canadian Navy Facility. "Roseway" off hire (minimum 4 hour).

J484 / Hemlock reached the headlands, "Point Valiant" disconnected and the J484 / Hemlock underway.

Will monitor weather and check in with crew at 17:00 Halifax Time and send out report again this evening.

15:48 N 44 17 W 63 50 Making 6.8 kts, Winds W35kts. No Problems

18:33 N 44 07 W 64 11 Spoke to tug Capt. Fernand Martin. All going well.

21:00 N 43 57 W 64 26 Making 5.7 kts, Winds NW 20kts. No Problems

Tow is making for Shelbourne early tomorrow morning. Will monitor weather as Low Pressure tracking faster and may offer earlier window for going across Gulf of Maine. Will await morning forecast and make further decisions.

Day Two:

March 26, 2002
1100 Atlantic Time

Juliett 484 / Hemlock have completed first leg of tow. Still to complete are: Crossing the Gulf of Maine (tow most exposed to weather) Transiting Cape Cod Canal Final leg from Canal into Providence

0600 N 43 39 W 65 15 Heading into Shelburne. All ok

0940 N 43 45 W 65 19 Tied up at Shelburne. No problems, everything ok. Furncan Marine taking care of Customs requirements and Berthing & Entry Fees for K-19 account.

Capt. Lance Julian spoke with Capt. Dave Ellin at 0500 Atlantic time via sat phone. Tow progressing well.

Received latest weather forecast which shows intense low pressure heading over the Gulf of Maine from SW to NE for Tue / Wed. Capt. Lance Julian, Capt. Dave Ellin and Capt. Fernand Martin discussed the weather and decision made to remain at Shelburne and wait for LOW to pass and then depart at first weather window.

Will receive another detailed weather forecast this afternoon and reconvene to determine departure from Shelburne.

All systems on sub working well, crew in good spirits.
